One reader RSVP'd to the magazine and described the kitchen as dark and "soulless". Mr. CottageModern disagrees, and says that the moody and masculine feeling is appealing and unique. I love a good dose of black, and think that every room can benefit from a few shots of it here or there, but this seems overwhelming. Am I missing out on a huge trend and overlooking the 'next best thing' in kitchen color schemes?
What do you think? If the above image hasn't left you out in the cold, click here to see images of the rest of this house--despite the darkness of this "heart of the home", the other rooms are light, bright, and stunningly beautiful!

I love a good black kitchen. I personally would have like to seen more contrast here between the cabinet color and the floor. But its a dramatic and pretty space.
The way the light reflects off the floor, the ceiling and the cabinets is great.
I like it
I can appreciate it... but would rather not live with it. Is that polite enough?
I like it! A lot! The horrible thing about all of these fabulous design blogs is I can NEVER EVER make up my mind on what I want for my new kitchen renovation because there are so many LOVELY kitchens out there. Ugh! Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog, Kristen.
I can embrace more black on the design scene, but I also struggled with this kitchen. Look how big those windows are, and it still feels too cave-like for me. I love the finishes and design, I just wish it wasn't ALL black. My tiny condo kitchen is navy blue but has pale birch cabinets and the contrast is lovely. For this kitchen I could go with either black walls or black cabinets... but not all black. I got your back on this one. :)
